History Tutoring

Overview

I have a bachelor's degree in history and political science, along with a master's degree in government and politics. In graduate school, I focused on American politics, and in 2013, I began tutoring undergraduates in history and political science. By 2015, I transitioned to teaching at the college level, where I led weekly discussion sections as a graduate student. My responsibilities included grading and providing feedback for exams, term papers, and other assignments.

For three semesters, I taught U.S. Congress to upperclassmen, and I've also instructed courses on political theory, pre-law, and introduction to American government. My graduate coursework covered a variety of topics, including interest groups and social movements, congressional lobbying, campaign advertising, voter behavior, federal institutions, political theory (both modern and contemporary), and, of course, Congress itself.

In addition to my academic experience, I worked in Washington, D.C., for a congressperson and a U.S. senator, where I represented legislative team members at policy briefings and hearings. I also conducted policy research and composed policy memos for legislative correspondents.

I assist students with U.S. history, spanning from the beginnings of the American Revolution to the present day. My tutoring services cater to middle school, high school, college, and graduate students, and I teach AP U.S. History and AP U.S. Government as part of my expertise.

AP U.S. History is a particular area of focus for me, and I enjoy working with individuals of all ages and backgrounds who are eager to learn more about the United States of America. I’m patient, organized, and I firmly believe that there’s no such thing as a dumb question. Asking for help is often the most challenging part of the learning process — I promise it gets easier from here!

Topic Areas

History

U.S. History, including significant events like the American Revolution, is essential for understanding our past. For students pursuing AP U.S. History, a deep dive into these topics is crucial. Additionally, exploring European History and World History can provide valuable context for those studying political science.

My son stated that Ben's expert knowledge in AP US History, particularly regarding the American Revolution, and his guidance in political science were very impactful and impressive. He had a great session focused on U.S. History and is excited to look forward to more sessions with BMG Tutoring.

I am so glad we found Ben. He was incredibly knowledgeable about history, including the American Revolution and AP U.S. History, as well as European literature. He helped my daughter with two late assignments, guiding her through the process of completing the work she had been struggling with, particularly in political science and U.S. History. We will continue to work with him on her final project.
